Citizens of Haverhill, my name is Sven Amirian and it has been an honor and pleasure to serve as your City Councilor for the past two years. As the November 8th election approaches you will be called on to make a decision that will affect the direction that Haverhill will take. I hope that, once again, you will choose to work with me to help guide our city.

Since being elected I have worked hard to bring revenue generating and quality of life enhancing programs to Haverhill. I am very proud of my efforts to develop our single stream curbside recycling program. I have also worked diligently with our numerous volunteer groups to foster a more cohesive partnership with our city government. I believe that volunteers are Haverhill’s most valuable resource and they deserve the utmost respect and support from their city officials.

I will remain a conduit and vocal activist for all our hard working volunteers.

There is still more to do. I believe I have the energy, vision, and dedication necessary to serve you for the next two years. Please allow me the opportunity.

As Haverhill voters get ready to vote in our election Nov. 8, I urge all to cast a vote to re-elect Councilor Sven Amirian. Over the past two years, Sven has proven to be a dedicated, thoughtful councilor who will always make decisions that he feels are in the best interest of the entire city. He consistently puts the time in to study all the issues that come before the council to cast an intelligent, informed vote.

Amirian’s track record is one of independence. While some of the current councilors seem to always vote either against or with the mayor, Sven votes on the merit of each issue that comes before the council. Early in his term in office, Sven pressed vigilantly to get the mayor to adopt citywide single-stream recycling, despite our mayor’s contention that doing so would cost the city money it could not afford. Over the last year, Haverhill has in fact saved over $250,000 because of this program.

Conversely, Sven supports the Nelson/Nygaard parking plan proposed by our mayor. Again, Sven put in hours of research including reading the 700-page book, “The High Cost of Free Parking” written by renowned parking expert Donald Shoup. Councilor Amirian did not blindly accept the mayor’s proposed plan, but rather studied the issue and the impact that similar plans have had on other communities. His determination is that this will benefit Haverhill and our downtown.

Sven has been very vocal in lauding the numerous individual and groups that serve Haverhill so well in volunteer capacities. Amirian has served Haverhill as a volunteer prior to and since joining the council as a member of the board of the Winnekenni Foundation, Haverhill Energy Task Force, as a den leader in the Cub Scouts and as a soccer coach in the Haverhill PAL league. Sven is the fourth generation of Amirians living in the same family home on Talmouth Avenue since 1928. He and his wife, Melanie, are now raising the fifth generation there.

For these reasons and many others, I urge Haverhill voters to vote for Sven Amirian in the Nov. 8 election.

With the Haverhill City Council election fast approaching, I would encourage my fellow voters to consider supporting the re-election of Sven Amirian. I know Sven personally, and his is not your typical politician. He shows this in the way he listens to residents and carefully considers all sides of an issue. Supporting recycling and investigating creative ways to save the city money, Sven works hard each day to help this city move forward.

As a third-generation Haverhill resident, Sven dedicates his time to working and raising his family in this community. And he is truly invested in Haverhill’s future. One thing that separates Sven from many leaders is that his goal is not self-promotion. He works hard in and outside of council meetings to research the best options for Haverhill’s progress. Each time I speak with him I am I encouraged to hear his latest ideas about protecting the environment, feasible sources of renewable energy, or simple ways we can support local business.

As lawn signs multiply in Haverhill, we are all reminded of the pending election of our local officials. Some folks are passionate for their candidate(s) and their causes while others are too busy living life to think too much about it. Then there is everyone else, those who are interested, but know very little about the candidates, who they are, and what they stand for.

There is one city councilor running for re-election that I do know well, and I want those residents of Haverhill who may be on the fence to get to know him as well. That’s Sven Amirian. He not only talks about how important recycling is and the need for increased reusable energy, he truly lives that life. As Sven’s neighbor, I can tell you that Sven does not drive an ordinary pickup truck, Sven’s vehicle runs on used vegetable oil that he procures through local sub shops and restaurants. Sven is frequently seen pedaling around his neighborhood on his bicycle, sometimes pulling a trailer with his signs in it, other times with his children in tow.

Sven is also highly invested in this city as he is not only a local business owner, he is a proud Dad to his three children, all of whom are involved in the Haverhill public schools and local athletic programs. Sven not only actively seeks revenue savings in his personal and business life, he is also committed to exploring new opportunities that Haverhill can consider to save money and increase revenue. Sven is not afraid to speak up when it comes to questionable spending or to offer revenue generating ideas as he has proven time and time again.

Most importantly, Sven works for the citizens of Haverhill in every way. There is no hidden agenda with Sven. He takes the time to listen, will be honest with his responses and will make every effort to assist in any way he can. He cares deeply about the environment and understands what changes we can make in order to stimulate a forward-thinking strategy so that our children and grandchildren will enjoy a healthy ecosystem.

He doesn’t speak to be heard, he listens in order to learn.
