5 Generations Living and Working in Haverhill

It was the early 1900′s when my great grandparents immigrated to the United States from Armenia. After several years of living in New Jersey they relocated to Haverhill and it wasn’t long before they had purchased a home of their own on Talmuth Avenue and began to live the American dream. My great grandfather, together with a great uncle, founded Haverhill’s own New York Cleaners which to this day is still in operation. My grandfather worked as an engineer at the Portsmouth Navy yard before finishing his working career closer to home at the former Western Electric facility.
Both of my parents have a strong background in the public sector. My father as Haverhill’s longest serving City Solicitor, and my mother working as a nurse at the Hale Hospital and in the Haverhill school system.
My grandfather as well as my father and aunt grew up in the family home and I am pleased to say that I am currently raising my children there as well.
My Youth
I am very proud to say that I was born and have lived in Haverhill my entire life. I spent my first 2 years on Maple Avenue before moving to East Broadway and some of my earliest memories are of walks in the woods with my parents around Millvale Reservoir.
Growing up I was a participant in numerous team sports including PAL soccer, Haverhill Youth Hockey and Riverside Bradford baseball and to this day I am still friends with many of my old teammates. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and shortly thereafter I moved back to Haverhill with my bride-to-be.
My Family
I was extremely fortunate to meet my soul-mate Melanie in a creative writing class during my junior year at CSU in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Although she took a little convincing to leave her family and home state, she eventually agreed to trade her mountains for my ocean and we moved back to Haverhill in 1997. We were married in 1999 in a backyard wedding featuring a Beatles tribute band. On July 7, 2004 we were blessed with the arrival of our son Balin and then on February 21, 2006 things really got busy when our identical twin girls, Meredith and Mallory joined the family. It has been an incredible joy to share my life with my wife and a day does not go by where I do not marvel at the satisfaction and experiences that fatherhood brings.
My Work
Upon my return to Haverhill I started my first business, Silvermane, a medieval themed costume and gift shop which I am proud to have owned for 14 years. We had an active internet and Renaissance faire presence as well as a retail storefront at 149 Washington St. in downtown Haverhill.
My latest ventures are in the arena of real estate and to that end I opened the Northshore’s first branch of Boston Green Realty. While our main office is located in historic Back Bay, the Haverhill office is our first retail location and will serve all of northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
Boston Green Realty is a full service real estate company that specializes in the marketing and sale of green real estate. In addition to offering traditional real estate services to buyers, sellers, investors, developers and renters, our firm also acts as a consultant on energy efficiency and environmental issues as they relate to home sales. It is our goal to incorporate green resources and education into all aspects of the real estate business.
My other real estate venture is Green Vision Properties, LLC. It, too, is with green community development in mind and specializes in sustainable planning and development, green design and construction, energy and performance modeling/analysis, and property management and maintenance.
And after stepping down from my duties as city councilor, I have assumed the role of President of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to continuing our work together to make Haverhill the best city it can be!
